The over-tank rinse is fed from the first recirculated rinse to begin body rinsing immediately upon the exit of the bodies from the paint bath. This rinse is positioned near or just after the weir to capture foam generated by the spray, causing the cream-coat adhering to the body to loosen and should take place <30 seconds from exiting the paint bath. The rinse also keeps the unit wet so that it will not spot or dry out and keeps all subsequent rinses cleaner.

The rinse should be designed to receive 2-3 GPM less than the rated ultrafilter output; the remaining ultrafilter outflow is returned to the dip tank by gravity overflow from Recirculated Rinse #1. Spray nozzles in this rinse should impinge well and be spaced so that pattern overlap covers the entire car body. Wide-angle nozzles capable of 85-degree range are in common use. VeeJetâ and FloodJetâ nozzles manufactured by Spraying Systems are employed in many systems; Floodjet nozzles are reputed to yield longer service life between cleanings and also create less foam. A nozzle on a street elbow should be installed on the bottom end of each vertical header to permit complete drainage of the header during non-production periods. Drainage can also be accomplished by drilling a small hole in the bottom of the header pipe. The rinse should be turned off at the end of production.

Since fine misting will be created by this rinse ring, walls should be constructed to contain the mist so that near-by equipment and walkways are protected. Access for nozzle replacement should also be provided as well as separate valves for controlling horizontal and vertical spray volumes.
